In the article the author was prompted to think about the role of equality in BDSM relationships, and especially in total power exchanges like M/s. She put forth the notion, that aside from basic human rights no two humans can ever be truly "equal". She further speaks to how power exchange is at it's very nature never about remaining equals - it is about authority and (more to my mind than hers) the exchange that goes along with a very unequal exchange of power due to the very nature of BDSM.

However, and this is the important part, a "good" master and one that is true to the positive precepts of BDSM will NEVER forget that at the very base of everything both the Master and the submissive/slave are equal as human beings.

The article caught my eye since this idea of being equal as human beings and that basic human rights (safety, food, shelter, opportunity and happiness) is the paramount, and only place in which any two human beings can be "equal" no matter their station in life. It is this concept which also helps me to view Stephan as a positive character and Ian as such a despicable one - Stephan keeps Anna's human rights very much in the forefront of his mind and Ian appears to have absolutely no regard for them, only caring for his own pleasure and satisfaction.

Was too interesting a thought to not share.IslandWoman221https://www.blogger.com/profile/14868048074283937361noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9027496632722310916.post-79637326057881916562011-09-19T16:56:52.216-07:002011-09-19T16:56:52.216-07:00Always love to hear where inspiration comes from! ...Always love to hear where inspiration comes from!
